Hornsea Sailing Club

The Mere is Yorkshire's largest fresh water lake having in excess of 250 acres of navigable water and is set amidst outstanding scenery. It is very safe - in fact one of the safest sailing waters in the region - but should anyone get into difficulties the Hornsea Mere Marine Company provides a permanent recovery service.

Club racing is organized for five main classes: Mirrors, Fireflies, Enterprises, Swordfish and Ospreys; also for a handicap dinghy fleet. The racing programme is divided into three points series - spring, summer and autumn - interspersed with several special events such as cup races and open meetings. Racing takes place on Sunday afternoons throughout the season and Wednesday evening and Sunday mornings during the summer months. Although much of its activities revolve around racing, the club equally welcomes those who do not wish to compete but simply enjoy sailing for pleasure.
