Mid Argyll Sailing Club

Mid Argyll Sailing Club is based on Loch Gilp close to Ardrishaig and Lochgilphead. The club was started in 2006 to provide an opportunity for all the community in the area to enjoy sailing and water based activities. Our first task was to provide training for local children and the Club acquired two Laser Pico dinghies, these were supplemented by other dinghies loaned by members and the kind gift of a small Rib as a training /rescue boat.

Buoyancy aids and and wet suits were purchased and during the summer of 2006 two groups of children and some adults undertook beginners sailing training. Also in 2006 the Club acquired use of the former minature railway engine shed on the seafront as a boathouse and plans are proceeding to build a new all tide dinghy slipway alongside the nearby community pier. The Club has recently purchased a new 5.5 m rib as a safety boat.

The Club is affiliated to the Royal Yachting Association who have assisted with set up and instructor training. In the last year members have undertaken courses in sail training, powerboat operation, coastal rescue and first aid. In the future we intend to continue training and to organize dinghy racing. The Club is growing and new members are needed to sustain this.
