Bodkin Yacht Club, Inc. is a first class boating organization, maintained by its members. It was organized as a “yacht club” in 1952 on the site of the former Carbacks Marina, presently known as Pleasure Cove Marina. They adopted bylaws and customs similar to existing yacht clubs. Several years later, because the club had grown in membership, they purchased a nearby property with docks and a house that provided a clubhouse. This property overlooking Bodkin Creek became the home of Bodkin Yacht Club. Renovations to the clubhouse were enjoyed by the membership until a severe fire destroyed the building in 1987. At that time the present modern clubhouse and lounge were constructed.
Bodkin Yacht Club is owned and maintained by its membership as a Maryland non-profit corporation. Its volunteer officers manage the club. Our Commodore is the presiding officer and represents the club at yacht club functions around the Chesapeake Bay. Our Vice Commodore is in charge of the clubhouse grounds and several important club events, including our Opening Weekend event in June of each year. The Rear Commodore operates the internal clubhouse operations, including the bar and kitchen. Our Fleet Captain arranges all of our many cruises in season, as well as managing the 60 plus boat slips that are available to our regular membership. A fifteen-member board of directors governs the day-to-day business of the club, subject to approval by the general membership.
Bodkin Yacht Club is an active social club as well as a boating organization. In addition to the many club cruises, we offer social events ranging from our “Formal” Commodore''s Ball in February, to our annual Bull & Oyster Roast in Spring and the Crab Feast in July. Our club offers a full social calendar for our members, their family and friends.
We have recently completed an entire renovation of our club house and basin, with its serene hilltop views nestled deep in the quiet Bodkin Creek, Bodkin Yacht Club is the perfect place for a weekend visit or extended stay. Bodkin Yacht Club is owned and maintained by its membership, therefore there is great pride taken in the clubs appearance and maintenance.
At the base of our hill you will find our first class yacht basin, boasting more than 60 slips, with new docks, electric, and plumbing. We have an access road the circles the base of the hill allowing members and visitors to conveniently load and unload in close proximity to our docks. Ice can be purchased from the clubhouse, and we provide dock carts for getting supplies to and from. Our club is dog friendly, with a designated dog walk area. It is club rules that dogs must be leashed at all times.
At the top of our hill you will find our club house and picnic pavilion areas. Our club house is smoke free, has a club lounge, large banquet/meeting room, and a full commercial kitchen. The club lounge features a full service bar with seating both at the bar and in the lounge areas. There is a large screen television with full cable service. Wi-Fi Internet access is available upon request, and is broadcasted throughout the clubhouse and yacht basin. Our picnic pavilion adjacent to the clubhouse has picnic tables, outside bar, and full kitchen. The outside pavilion is commonly used for members to gather on Friday evenings during the season for a traditional happy-hour event. Members use this time to catch up with one another and to determine weekend cruising destinations.
