The Saskatchewan Sailing Clubs Assc. (SSCA) serves to promote all forms of sailing within the province of Saskatchewan. We do this through our Learn To Sail programs, Club Assistance programs and the Provincial Racing Team.
Additionally, we provide a link between Saskatchewan sailors and the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA), sailing’s national governing body.
All sailing courses are taught using boats called International 420’s. The focus of the program is to provide individuals with the basic proficiency to become a competent sailor who may continue to develop as a personal boat owner, use club boats at member clubs, crew with others, or become members of the Provincial Race Team. Instructors will either be in the sailboat with the students or in a coach boat given instruction.
Instructors are certified with CYA credentials and are competent members of the Provincial Race Team. The instructors have achieved the Bronze Sail 5, Level 1 NCCP theory, first aid, and bronze medallion and have passed a weeklong instructor course.
Participants will learn the basics of balance, direction, propulsion, as well as rigging and launching. The course provides instruction on safety and seamanship. Required theory and practice enables you to sail with confidence.
