The Hunter Sonata is a small racer-cruiser yacht built in Britain between 1976 and 1990 by Hunter Boats Limited to a high specification. It is a very seaworthy and speedy boat, especially in relation to its size. Over 400 Hunter Sonata were made, demonstrating its popularity and its design remains timeless.
The Hunter Sonata was designed by David Thomas and it has a glass-fibre hull and an iron keel. It has four berths and two further bunks meaning it can accommodate a family or four adults comfortably. Hunter Sonatas were built offering several different keels for different sailing performances, including a twin keeled version and lifting keel and fin keel versions.
The Hunter Sonata has RYA National Status Class, and the yacht remains a leading One-Design cruiser-racer even though Hunter no longer builds to this design. Many races have a Sonata class, illustrating the popularity of the boat for racing, and the Hunter Sonata performs strongly when tested. The boat can comfortably be sailed in difficult conditions and also cruised in as a holiday yacht.
