Ballyholme Yacht Club and North Down Sailing Academy offer a variety of boats and sailing equipment for hire. For the beginner there are Toppers and Picos - small dinghies that can be sailed singlehanded or perhaps parent plus child. These boats are unsinkable - we think. The sails can easily be reefed (made smaller) for the nervous first-timer. For the more advanced there are two Laser Vagos - boats that can be docile and comfortable or sailed on the edge with their assymetric spinnakers and trapese wires. We also have a fleet of Laser 2 Regattas for team racing, tuition and family sailing.

The Kingstown Boat Club, from which the Royal St. George Yacht Club evolved, was founded in 1838 by a small group of boating enthusiasts who had decided that the (River) Liffey was every year becoming fouler and less agreeable for aquatic pursuits. They applied to the Commissioner for Public Works, and were granted a piece of ground near Dun Laoghaire Harbour on which to build a clubhouse the first privately owned building to stand on publicly owned space. Initially, the members main interest was in rowing, but membership grew rapidly, and amongst them were many well-known yachtsmen of the day. The George has a long tradition of racing and cruising, and members have, from the start, made their mark in home and international waters.

Description

The Mullingar sailing Club has progressed from its humble beginnings, when members had to change into and out of sailing gear in the open air beside their cars and then, shortly later, nearly having to close due to too few members. From this we have grown to a thriving and popular club for both members and welcomed visitors alike. Its enthusiastic committees and membership will ensure that the club will continue to thrive for many years to come.
