with a strong family tradition, there are approximately 750 adult members and some 200 juniors and there is storage space for around 100 dinghies in the summer and 40 cruisers in the winter. The Emsworth Mud Slippers Sailing Club was officially formed in 1921, although an interest in sailing can be traced back earlier than this, but it was not until 1963 that the club purchased a home of its own in the Anchor, South Street.
In 1977, the club purchased the long derelict mill and the members started the huge task of making it into the award winning building and thriving sailing club that it is today. ESSC is very much a "members club" relying on volunteers to lead and support all the activities, both on and off the water, and the majority of the members live in Emsworth or nearby.
The object of the club is to encourage amateur sailing and boating and to provide and maintain a clubhouse and social facilities. We have novices of all ages learning to sail and members who are or have been national and international sailing champions and we enjoy competitive but friendly racing in both dinghies and yachts. We enjoy an active social programme and are fortunate to have one of the most attractive clubhouses in Chichester Harbour. The club is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and a Volvo Champion Club. We organise a wide range of courses on and off the water for our members throughout the year.
