Description

Yaverland Sailing and Boat Club is based on the Southern side of the Isle of Wight. It is almost right on the beach on the Eastern end of Sandown Bay, which shelters boats from the English Channel. As the name suggests, the Yaverland Sailing and Boat Club is not only home to sailing boats. Our Members own a huge variety of water craft including Ocean Kayaks, Jet Skis and Seadoos, small motorised fishing boats as well as a large selection of mono and multi-hull sailing craft.

Although these are predominately Laser there are a few others including a small selection of Hobie boats. Our Members are extremely friendly and always willing to lend a hand if another Member needs help. The Club owns several tractors that are used to take boats to and from the beach. The Club has separate changing and shower areas for men and women and a large Sail store. All our facilities are on the ground floor with parking very close to the main facilities so are accessable by disabled people. Other Club facilities include a bar and function room that is available for hire. We have an extensive Social calendar with event being organised during the Spring, Summer and Autumn seasons.

Situated just off the large shingle beach at Hythe, Hythe and Saltwood Sailing Club provides great facilities for sailing and windsurfing in an informal, friendly environment. A real 'family' club, we welcome visitors and new members alike; you'll soon feel 'part of the family'.

The sailing and windsurfing at Hythe is excellent, ranging from those warm, flat days, ideal for beginners, to demanding force 8 gales; enough to test the most proficient windsurfer. Usually, however, conditions are a more sedate force 2 to 4 in the prevailing south-westerly winds. he Club has two main activity sections, designed to promote both dinghy sailing and windsurfing. However the Club also has a strong social programme, with numerous parties, BBQ's and fun sports for everyone's enjoyment. Special events are also held throughout the year with open days, regattas and a visit to and from our rival French club, Circle Voile d'Artois.

WSC is a friendly, family-orientated club 30 minutes from London (on a Sunday morning!), and probably the most active club for dinghy sailors in north Kent. Launching is at all states of the tide from a slipway and adjacent shingle beach. Members sail a wide range of boats, which are split into fast, medium, slow and junior handicap fleets.

There is also class racing for Miracles, while Laser 2000's are becoming popular in the medium fleet. Examples of the 29er, Buzz, Contender, Kestrel, Lark, Laser, Laser Radial, Laser 3000 & V3000, Laser 4000, Laser Vortex, Osprey, Phantom, RS400, RS500, RS600, RS800, RS Vision, Topper, Wayfarer classes are all raced regularly in the handicap fleets. The club organizes a number of open handicap events throughout the year, including a Topper/Laser open, the Wilsonian Grand Prix and Medway Dinghy Regatta in June/July, a Winter Series through November and December, and the Chilly Willies race on 1st January.

The club also helps run the famous 'Hoo Freezer'. Club racing is year-round, apart from a short break in January, and is generally on Sundays, though from May to August there are races on Wednesday evenings too. Training is also a strong feature of the club, at beginner level and beyond, both in dinghies and in safety boats. As a Volvo RYA Champion club, junior training is also strongly emphasised. Off the water, a large clubhouse accommodates changing and showering facilities as well as food and drinks bars and social activities such as parties and barbecues.

Aberdeen and Stonehaven Yacht Club (ASYC) is unusual in that it offers sailing opportunities at different venues during the year. From March to the end of May the club operates on the freshwater Loch of Skene, 10 miles west of Aberdeen. This loch is an ideal location for relative newcomers to dinghy sailing, as well as providing a great location for competitive racing. At the beginning of June the club''s activities move to the more challenging North Sea coastal waters at Stonehaven where sailing takes place until mid-November. ASYC does not formally specialise in any particular class of dinghy, though Fireball and Laser have been become distinct fleets, and it is hoped to develop RS200, Blaze and Musto Skiff as racing fleets. The club owns a number of boats including twelve Optimist dinghies, five Toppers, two Lasers, one 420, one Laser 2, and an RS Feva.
